Sometimes a new direction starts simply by showing up, listening and asking questions.
Following our participation in the Detroit Supplier Matchmaking event, we continued exploring opportunities within the U.S. space industry through NASA Office of Small Business Programs webinars.
And the message we heard was encouraging:
There is a path for SMEs to become part of the NASA supply chain.
The webinars clearly described how small businesses can prepare, qualify and position themselves for new opportunities. Perhaps even more interesting was hearing directly from NASA prime contractors about why they want SMEs involved.
The industry needs specialized talent, flexible peak-capacity support, start-up thinking, different approaches to difficult problems and, above all, new ideas.
Those are areas where a smaller engineering company can have something meaningful to offer.
For Mattorgroup, this made the space industry considerably less distant than it may first appear.
So, after the webinars, it is time for the next step.
Houston, here we come.
On September 15, Mike and Monika Torma will represent Mattorgroup Inc. at NASA OSBP Engagement 2026 L.I.F.T. at Space Center Houston, including the associated B2B matchmaking forum.
We are going there primarily to learn — to better understand the industry, its prime contractors, its expectations and where Mattorgroup’s engineering and field-support capabilities could fit into this ecosystem.
Our background is firmly rooted in industrial engineering: automation, electrical and control systems, machinery, commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance and hands-on production support.
Space may be a new destination for us.
Engineering isn’t.
And perhaps the best way into a new industry is the same way we have entered many others over the years:
Learn, contribute, solve problems — and make a few new friends along the way. 🚀
See you in Houston.
